Lorain County Metro Parks
Educational Opportunities for Classrooms and Groups
Lights! Camera! Action! It’s Program
Time!
The Lorain County Metro Parks is at your service - whether to support
your classroom curriculum or grade level proficiencies, or to just entertain
and enlighten your membership. With our wide variety of natural and cultural
history offerings we are sure to have a program that meets your needs.
It’s All About Choice
Complimenting
our large choice of program topics is our equally diverse Metro Park
Reservations and Facilities. But, as you can see from the list below,
we do not just host 'home games'. We can bring many versions of our programming
to your classroom or meeting place.
Let’s say you don’t see a topic on the list that meets
your needs – don’t sweat it. Besides being really well-versed
on nature and history, we are even better versed at being flexible. Just
give us a call and we will most likely be able to develop a program that
perfectly fits your needs.
Setting Some Standards
It’s official: We are now LCMP Proficiency Approved. OK, so there
is no such thing, but for the last 40 years we have been a supplement
to classroom curriculum. Things have changed and so have our programs.
Our programs are more relevant to the needs of teachers and to grade
level standards and benchmarks. Our programs now have more artifacts,
techno gizmos, and hands-on stuff to help you move your students toward
proficiency. And, like always, you can talk to us about adjusting our
programs to best serve your needs, and those of your students.
Too many options? Too many choices?
That's your problem.
Let’s Talk Dollars & Sense
There is rarely, if ever, a charge for our programming. Let's say your
school or club has a tight budget - you can count on us to be perfectly
affordable. Let's say you wish to reserve a shelter, or room, along
with your program...there's also no charge for that either. Let's say
that you want to have a Naturalist stay all day at your school and
do a program for each grade level - again, no charge. Let's say that
you want to have our staff paint the side of your garage...well, that
we would have to charge for.
Just a Few Rules
We don't have many rules, but here are a few that will make scheduling
a program with us easier, simpler, and - shall we say - quickerer.
- A two-week notice is necessary - but because we are so darn popular,
you may wish to call us much earlier
- We need at least fifteen participants - this may include students,
parents, teachers, group leaders, or siblings (but not pets)
- To be fair to all schools and groups, we may have to limit the number
of programs offered to any one group during the course of a year
Pick Up The Phone!
Scheduling a program is as easy as dialing 1-800-LCM-PARK (which translates
to 1-800-526-7275).
We're Makin' a List. You May Want to Check
it Twice!
Here's a list of some of our most popular programs. Because of the nature
of our Metro Parks - literally - hikes work best at our sites. All programs
can be scheduled year-round unless otherwise noted, or assumed (i.e.
spring wildflower hike in fall? Even we can't do that!) Also, some programs
work best at certain locations. Maple Sugaring, for example, works only
at the Carlisle Visitor Center in March.
