Every Spring, the Lorain County Metro Parks increases its program offerings, gardens need tended, grass starts to grow, the golf course re-opens and visitation to the park increases. To handle all of this increased activity, seasonal employees are needed. Seasonal applicants must have a valid State of Ohio Driver's license and be 18 years of age or older. Employment opportunities are available in several of the parks. Who: Any person looking to gain experience in the field of interpretation, education, biology, or history What: Seasonal Naturalists work from the French Creek Nature Center and help coordinate and conduct nature camps, outdoor adventure camps, science camps, and history camps. Organizational skills and experience working with children is important. Knowledge of the local natural history is also a plus. Seasonal naturalists may work some weekends and may help with other nature center tasks, such as animal care and assisting visitors. The Schoepfle Garden is seeking park service trainees to assist in grounds maintenance, installation of new plantings and to conduct public programs. Applicants must be detail oriented and have the ability to accurately follow through on work assignments without close supervision. Applicants must have valid driver’s license and be a minimum of 17 years of age and capable of performing outdoor physical work. Applicants will also be enrolled in an educational program pursuing a degree in horticulture or related field. Both three-month and six-month opportunities are available. The Park Aides perform a wide variety of semi-skilled and unskilled labor jobs in maintaining and improving Park District resources, including but not limited to: Clean park facilities; routine landscaping tasks (mowing, pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, etc.); litter and trash pick-up; operate vehicles and equipment. Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs and participate in park safety programs as well as adhere to Park District policies and standards. The Golf Aides maintains golf course equipment and golf course. Performs mainly routine tasks in maintenance and landscaping including but not limited to: cleans park facilities, performs routine landscaping tasks, assist in daily course set-up. Previous knowledge of golf course equipment and duties preferred. Must be able to life up to 80 pounds and participate in park safety programs as well as adhere to Park District policies and standards. The Natural Resource Technician assists in the implementation of Natural Resource Management Plans for the parks. Assists with wetland maintenance, nest box upkeep, invasive plan control, brush clearing, and field mowing. Assists with prescribed burn crew. Works individually or with park staff and volunteers in all weather conditions. Performs related maintenance tasks as apparent or assigned. This position may be used to fulfill internship requirements. Qualifications: Must have a strong interest in resource management, forestry, wildlife, fisheries, or related field. Individuals either possessing or working towards degree in one of these fields given preference. Must have working knowledge of local flora and fauna. Must have working knowledge of power tools, agricultural equipment or construction equipment. Must be willing to apply herbicides within park natural areas.
