Welcome to the Wellington Reservation home page. Created in the fall of 2005 through a cooperative effort between the Metro Parks and the Village of Wellington, this 550-acre Metro Park mirrors features from many of our other parks – plus a little extra. From hiking, biking, and strolling, to fishing, boating, and observing wildlife on the wetlands, the recreational opportunities at Wellington Reservation abound. Wellington Reservation

The Day-Use Area

Wellington Visitor Center
The Visitor Center
Perched on the edge of the Wellington South Reservoir, the Wellington Visitor Center offers visitors views of the lake from two levels. The lower entry level features a large meeting room with windows that overlook the water, an attractive stone fireplace, and high ceiling – a perfect location for your group or family function. This room, along with a small adjoining kitchenette, is available for group use by reservation. Access to the second level is available to all visitors via stairs or wheelchair lift. There, visitors can view art shows and displays, or view the landscape from the observation deck.

Historic Lakeview Park Rose Garden

Over 4 miles of paved and crushed stone trails meander through the Wellington Reservation’s grassland fields and wetland habitats. Accessible to wheelchairs and strollers, the loop trail system can be used for any non-motorized activity all at once or in parts – the length of the trail is up to you. Each loop highlights a different section of the park providing visitors with a variety of vistas across the lake, from atop an elevated observation mound, and throughout the intermittent wetlands in the grassland prairies.

After a hike on the trail, take a paddle on the water! The 21-plus acre lake formed by the Wellington South Reservoir offers opportunity for boating and fishing. Cruise around the open water and visit the inlets of the lake on one of our four-person pontoon paddle boats available free of charge or bring your own non-gas motorized fishing boat and drop a line or two. 107 million gallons of water is sure to hold a few big Largemouth Bass, Channel Catfish, and a whole lot of Bluegill. Park closes at dusk – night fishing is not permitted.

Weelington Wetlands
Wetlands at Wellington Reservation
The recent development of Wellington Reservation has been made possible by way of a cooperative partnership that has formed between the Lorain County Metro Parks and the Village of Wellington. This effort, combined with government funding through wetland mitigation, has enabled the Park District to increase the access of the reservation to the neighboring community, to install a trail system for multiple activity use, maintain recreational opportunities attributed to the reservoir lake, and construct a Visitor Center for the use and enjoyment of all visitors to the park. Future partnerships hope to increase further recreational opportunity at Wellington Reservation in areas such as astronomy and night sky observation, Frisbee golf, soccer, and equestrian trail use.
